ELIJAH Contributes to $114 Million Hetronic Court Victory | Elijah
Chicago, IL: ELIJAH, a leading provider of digital forensics data collection and investigation services, was part of the team that successfully obtained a $114 million jury award on behalf of its client Hetronic International. Jenner & Block was counsel for Hetronic, and a link to its press release is here.
In October 2013, Hetronic International, a manufacturer of industrial radio remote controls, and subsidiary of Methode Electronics, retained ELIJAH to perform digital forensic services related to theft of confidential information by Hetronic’s former president and vice president of accounting. At that first trial, the digital forensic analysis and testimony of ELIJAH Director Jonathan Bobb was an important element of the proceedings, contributing to the court entering an adverse inference jury instruction against the defendant and in favor of Hetronic. The court praised Mr. Bobb for his “candor and professionalism” during his testimony, and noted that he was “cut from a different bolt of cloth than most of the experts who appear in this courtroom.”
Mr. Bobb subsequently testified in February 2020 in a related suit against certain Hetronic distributors relating to an alleged conspiracy with Hetronic’s former president involving the sharing of Hetronic’s confidential information. On March 2, 2020, in a federal jury trial in the Western District of Oklahoma, the jury returned a verdict that included approximately $102 million in compensatory damages and $12 million in punitive damages.
